Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Introduction

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) also known as Rehabilitation Medicine department is headed by a physician who has completed training in this field ( Post MBBS- MD/DNB). The core function of the department is to provide comprehensive care for physical impairments or disabilities affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, muscles and tendons. Spinal cord injury,brain injury, stroke,musculoskeletal (osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, spine related pain and dysfunction, overuse syndrome) , paediatric ( cerebral palsy, autism,muscular dystrophy) rehabilitation and corrective and rehabilitative surgeries are among the most common clinical problems seen and managed by PMR specialists. The services are provided by a multidisciplinary team that includes physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapist, orthotists and prosthetists, social workers and others.
